[Sydney] On Sunday November 5, Golden Year 3 (2006), Sydney Center participated in the first Cruelty Free Festival in this city, run by Animal Liberation. Over 2000 people, many more than expected, attended this 100% vegan festival in which all take away food containers had to be recyclable.

Sydney Center had a display of Master’s publications and flyers, along with free vegan food delights, which attracted many people to our booth to sample, and which everyone enjoyed. Moreover, most people wanted copies of the recipes that we were giving out. We also distributed a list which had the shops in Sydney that supplied the soy-based vegan proteins, so that our guests had the complete set of information they needed to go home and replicate the food they tried during the festival.

Also, since we were the only group giving away free lunch and delicious vegan chocolate cake as a snack, many people sincerely appreciated our presence at the festival.

Our group also had initiates dressed in animal costumes including two rabbits, a cow and a kangaroo. Unfortunately, Australian people have started to eat Kangaroo meat in recent years, so we thought it was important to show how beautiful and loving our national symbol the kangaroo is; hopefully, this will encourage more people to switch to a kinder and healthier diet.

Our rabbits, cow and kangaroo were great favorites with the crowd at the festival as they danced to the music and played with the children all day long. Due to Master’s perfect arrangement our stall was located next door to the children’s painting stall where the children sat down and painted their favorite animal. The initiates dressed in animal costumes were on hand to act as models for them to paint!

Towards the end of the day, we held a seminar at the festival where we played “The Real Heroes” DVD. This was very well received.

The atmosphere of the festival was so uplifting, positive and unified as all stallholders present are part of groups who are working in Australia to stop animal cruelty. Many groups came from other states of Australia, including Victoria and Queensland, to participate in this event. It was great to meet like-minded people and share ideas about how to support each other in our common goal.
