Nestled in the Basian Mountains
by the Dajia River, the Songhe tribal settlement in Bo-ai Village,
Heping Township, Taichung County had long been known as "an excellent
place amidst scenic mountains and beautiful waters." Unfortunately,
however, mudslides triggered by Typhoons Mindulle and Aere engulfed
more than a hundred homes and destroyed the area's beautiful landscape
and peaceful lifestyle almost overnight. And despite relief subsidies
from the government and assistance from civilian groups, much remained
to be done to restore normality to the lives of local residents.
On Master's instructions, fellow
initiates from the Taichung Center wasted no time in visiting the
affected area and found many victims in urgent need of help. On October
7, the disciples arrived at Bo-ai Village to distribute relief funds
to thirty-eight senior citizens who were living alone in dire circumstances.
They also provided financial aid to twenty-three destitute young students.
Moreover, to help in the local community's reconstruction effort,
the relief team contributed two desktop computers, a laptop and two
digital cameras to the Songhe Community Post-Disaster Reconstruction
Committee.
Participants in the relief operation
were touched by the inner joy and contentment of the Bo-Ai villagers,
as well as Supreme Master Ching Hai's omnipresent love. Although She
is in a distant land, Master never fails to take subtle care of every
corner of the world. For this awesome and compassionate concern, the
fellow initiates of Formosa are extremely thankful.
