Sweetest Batteries
From Supreme Master Television News, Episode 241 Researchers at Saint Louis University
in Missouri, USA, have developed the “sweetest batteries,”
which are fuel cell batteries that run on virtually any type of sugar,
operate three to four times longer than conventional lithium batteries
and can be recharged instantly. However, the most important advantage
is that, unlike other fuel cells, all the materials used to build the
sugar battery are biodegradable. A prototype the size of a postage stamp
has been developed to operate a calculator. Research leader, Dr. Shelley
Minteer, said, “The study shows that renewable fuels can be directly
employed in batteries…. It demonstrates that by bridging biology
and chemistry, we can build a better battery that’s cleaner for
the environment.”
