Hsihu International 5-Day Retreat, Golden Year 4 (2007),
Financial Report

The expenditures for this 5-Day Retreat covered a period of about one month, from the preparatory stages to the finishing work after the retreat was over. Originally, the fees collected would not have been sufficient, but instead there was a little surplus in the end, mainly because of devoted support from fellow initiates and the efficient use of resources:

1. During the preparatory stages, fellow initiates from Formosa and other countries dedicated enormous effort to clearing up areas around Hsihu Center and building facilities such as canopies and temporary washrooms.

2. Formosan fellow initiates offered free use of many different types of equipment, including almost 100 television sets, excavators, and bulldozers.

3. Fellow initiates from Au Lac, Hong Kong, the United States, and Formosa contributed many local delicacies for the New Year celebration garden-party, thus lowering spending on food and beverages.

4. The carpets used in the Meditation Hall were purchased at wholesale price with additional discounts, thus reducing estimated spending by about 50 percent.

5. Carpets previously used at an exhibition at the Taipei World Trade Center were used in dining and other activity areas, thus saving a lot of money.

* The 5-Day Retreat Support Committee has contributed the remaining surplus funds to fellow initiates truly in need and to other public service efforts.

* We would like to extend our gratitude to the following departments and local people for their full support:

1. The Magistrate of Miaoli County and the Mayor of Hsihu Township, and all the officials and staff working in their offices.

2. The Hsihu Township Police Department and related agencies.

3. Our neighbors around the Hsihu Center, who lent their land to us and extended generous understanding and assistance.

* Most important of all, we want to thank our dear Master for making this unforgettable International 5-Day Retreat possible.
