God’s Love to Himalayan Kids
Compiled from Supreme Master Television, Episode 105
Lama Tenzin (Onchung Rinpoche) is the founder of Himalayan Kids, which is a project of Children’s Education Development (CED), a non-profit organization that seeks to preserve ancient Tibetan culture by assisting young children from Dolpo and other Himalayan villages with health and education support. Their mission is to provide a caring, positive environment and modern education for orphans, destitute, and underprivileged children of the Himalayan border regions without regard to race, religion, or caste. Lama Tenzin is a vegetarian and the children in his orphanage, in Northern India, are all pure vegetarians and also meditate. They grow their own organic food and enjoy their lives there very much. All the children there have experienced a very big change; many didn’t know basics like how to drink water from a glass, yet now they are doing very well in school, learning English and other subjects.
To support Lama Tenzin’s noble and charitable work, Supreme Master Ching Hai graciously contributed US$10,000 to support the children in his orphanage. In February, Golden Year 4 (2007), Lama Tenzin wrote a letter expressing his appreciation for Master’s timely contribution when they were urgently looking for school fee funds for all 19 children. He wrote, “One of the most touching experiences was when all kids got news of being able to go to school for the new season in April 2007 and when I look into their eyes and see how their lives have changed, and their dreams of continuing education are becoming a reality.” He said Master’s help is critical to the children’s lives and has a lasting impact on the quality of life for future generations of the Himalayan border region.
