Meditate to Receive Answers
to Your Prayers

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai,
videoconference with disciples in Helsinki, Finland,
February 16, 2003 (Originally in English)

Q:  In addition to our meditation, should we also pray, and in what way?

M: Yes. Anytime you feel the urge to pray, you may do so because at that time you’re sincere and the prayer is your request to God. But then you must meditate afterwards in order to receive the answer. So you can pray, but then meditation is a must. Just like if I’m talking to you, you have to listen for the answer.

Discovering the Vastness
of Consciousness through Meditation

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai, videoconference with disciples in Helsinki, Finland, February 16, 2003 (Originally in English)

Q: What does it mean to extend consciousness? What is its goal and how can we extend our consciousness except through meditation?

M: When we meditate, we go to higher and higher levels of consciousness. In this way, we automatically extend or expand our consciousness, but it’s not that our consciousness expands, it’s just that we learn and come to know more about our own consciousness, which is vast and great. And this enables us to do anything we’d like to do: experiencing miracles, strengthening our lives and getting more enlightened and more intelligent.

The Different Forms
of Unconditional Love

Spoken by Supreme Master Ching Hai, videoconference with disciples in Helsinki, Finland, February 16, 2003 (Originally in English)

Q: What is unconditional love? Could you please give an example? And how can we extend unconditional love to everyone?

M: That’s a very good question. Usually the love we give is very conditional but when we reach a higher level of consciousness we automatically love everyone. And then we help everyone we can in a subconscious way without even thinking about it, without that person even asking for help and without of course even thinking of any reward in return.

So you already practice unconditional love, for example, in times when there’s a disaster or there are some needy or homeless people and you follow my instructions to go out and help them without even knowing who they are, and without them even knowing who you are or rewarding you with anything in return. It’s just for the pleasure of serving people. That’s one kind of unconditional love, which is physical.

Another kind of unconditional love is when you meditate and go to group meditation a lot or share the good news from the Kingdom of God with people who need to hear it. That’s also unconditional love because you don’t get any physical reward in return, not that you’re even expecting any; you’re just doing it because of love. And that’s a very unconditional kind of love. This second kind of unconditional love, namely, sharing spiritual practice or maybe praying for others in need and meditating for world peace is a higher form of unconditional love than the physical kind. And you’re already doing that.
