Droplets from the Ocean of Love

On August 31, 2005, after Hurricane Katrina
struck Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi, initiates from Florida,
Georgia, Texas and other states quickly organized a relief team to
conduct aid efforts in towns along the coast of Mississippi, where
the storm had done the worst damage. And on the way to Biloxi, Mississippi,
where every house had been flooded, we came upon a man who was very
humble and spoke little English. A woman friend of his told us he
had lost everything in the disaster, and now just wanted some basic
clothing such as shirts, pants and underwear to pass the days. We
had brought along food, water, flashlights, mosquito repellent and
other items but no clothing, and since all the local stores were closed
due to flooding no clothes could be purchased.
Then a brother on the relief team said, “If
people aren’t asking for anything but clothing they must really
be in need,” and took off his Celestial Clothing shirt to give
to the man. Another brother who was leaving after this relief trip
had brought his clothes with him in his car, but they were all dirty
after he had done many days of relief work in other areas. He then
decided to take off the only clean shirt he had left to give to the
man, along with some pants he had in the car. These spontaneous acts
of compassion touched the man, his woman friend and two neighbors
standing nearby, all of whom began to cry. We then gave them some
more relief supplies and wished them luck, and they in turn thanked
Master for Her kindness.
What we gave the disaster victims was trifling,
but the initiates’ spontaneous acts of compassion touched their
souls and allowed them to be blessed by Master’s grace.
