Director Hsieh Shih-jieh of the Tainan City
Environmental Protection Bureau savors sweet corn with fellow
practitioners after the beach cleaning effort.
|
[Tainan] On January
27, 2002, fellow practitioners from the Tainan Center braved gusty
winds and heavy rain to carry out their regularly scheduled cleaning
and maintenance work on the Golden Beach in Tainan.
Director Hsieh Shih-jieh of the Tainan City Environmental
Protection Bureau personally inspected the site and complimented the
practitioners on their enthusiastic participation in environmental
protection, saying that he was deeply impressed by the Supreme Master
Ching Hai International Association's persistent efforts to clean
the beach despite harsh weather. Mr. Hsieh observed that it is ideal
for a civic group like ours to inspire public participation in environmental
protection efforts, for such work is not only a task for the cleaning
staff of the Environmental Protection Bureau, but also the common
duty of every citizen. Director Hsieh further acknowledged that he
was inspired to join in the Association's next cleaning project at
the Golden Beach. Together, they would do their part for environmental
protection, and provide Tainan citizens with a clean and beautiful
area for recreation. After an interview with our fellow practitioners,
Director Hsieh stayed to enjoy a vegetarian meal lovingly prepared
by fellow practitioners.
Exclusive Interview
with Tainan Mayor

Tainan Mayor Hsu Tien-tsai conducts an interview
for the Supreme Master Ching Hai's TV program
A Journey through Aesthetic Realms.

On February 1, 2001, fellow practitioners from the
production team of the TV program A Journey through Aesthetic Realms
visited the Tainan City Government to conduct an exclusive interview
with the new mayor, Mr. Hsu Tien-tsai. During the interview, team
members exchanged views with Mayor Hsu on the ecological importance
of environmental protection. The mayor called for increased social
introspection on this topic, commenting that human communities are
the Earth's major source of pollution, which is currently too much
for nature to digest and eliminate through ecological recycling. He
also stated that the Tainan City Government had conferred a public
- interest award on the Supreme Master Ching Hai International Association
in recognition of its enthusiastic participation in environmental
protection and other public-interest efforts, especially the Tainan
Beach-cleaning project, which is carried out more thoroughly and is
better implemented than those by other groups.
Mayor Hsu understands the importance of vegetarianism
for the environment within the human body, for ecological conservation,
and in terms of the effective use of the Earth's limited resources.
Thus, environmental protection must begin with vegetarianism.
The exclusive interviews with
Tainan Mayor Hsu Tien-tsai and Director Hsieh Shih-jieh of the Tainan
City Environmental Protection Bureau were broadcast in Serial 41 of
